Benoit Parmentier, “Using Remote Sensing and Satellites for Environmental Change and Climate Applications”

Join us for a talk with Benoit Parmentier titled “Using Remote Sensing and Satellites for Environmental Change and Climate Applications.”  Benoit is a Research Associate, Sustainability Solutions Initiative from the University of Maine, Orono. In his talk, Benoit will discuss how remote sensing earth observation data has become more ubiquitous and present some applied use of satellite time series
imagery for research in climate and the environment.

Benoit did his undergraduate studies in Belgium at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles in Geography and went on to obtain a master in Cartography and Remote Sensing also at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles. He continued his studies in the US and graduated with a PhD in Geography from Clark University. He worked for some time at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis, UCSB and now currently holds a Research associate position at the Sustainability Solutions Initiative, U. of Maine. As part of his work he participated in different projects in Clark Labs related to land cover change detection and mapping as well related to the use of environmental variables time series analysis using remote sensing and GIS and to study global environmental change.
